Cutting the Retaining Wall Caps

Written by Natasha Maerz | Oct. 21, 2024

Every retaining wall will have some caps that need cutting. At a minimum caps will need to be cut to length, and frequently you need to customize blocks or caps to make them fit tightly (especially when building stairs out of Allan Block).

When cutting caps most contractors cut free hand. This is not ideal as it’s really hard to make a perfectly square cut by hand. We use a table mounted brick saw for our cuts to ensure that each cut is plumb and straight.

Pre-planning your retaining wall is vital so that cuts don’t need to be made close to corners, stairs, or other focal points. Having a certified retaining wall builder build your wall will ensures that your retaining wall design is pre-planned.
