How To Turn Your Outdoor Space Into A Staycation
You have put lots of time and energy into making your outdoor space a place to relax and get away from the day-to-day hustle and bustle. While it is nice to get away every once in a while, getting ready for a trip can be a lot of work, and very stressful. You can avoid all the planning, packing and unpacking, and endless loads of laundry, by creating a staycation in your very own backyard.
Why Stay Home?
There truly is something comforting about staying home and enjoying the space that you have worked so hard to build. By doing a staycation you will avoid the stress of travel, and can spend quality time with your family and pets, without having to spend a ton of money.
Designing Your Patio
Design your patio with your favourite vacation spot in mind, and you will have that special feeling of relaxation every time you step outside into your outdoor living space. If your favourite go to destination is the mountains, veer towards earth tones and woodsy elements. Add a hot tub and a fireplace and you will feel like you are at a mountain retreat. On the other hand, if you like going to the beach, add light colored decking and a waterfall to your patio to give your outdoor living space a beachy feel.
Add Ambiance Lighting
The benefit of having a great patio, is using it at all times of the day. Adding soft light not only allows for safety and easy navigation around your patio, but will illuminate the deck while not being overbearing. There are so many different types of lighting options to choose from, that you will be able to have unique lighting that matches the feel that you are going for.
Activities
Adding activities that you would do when you are on vacation will make it feel like you are away for the weekend. If your go to vacation involves playing bocce ball on the beach, add a space in your outdoors to play bocce ball that is surrounded by a garden of flowers. If your backyard space allows, you can even add a ping pong table, and horse shoe is always a fun game that can be done in any outdoor space.
Add Water and Fire Features
Water
Who doesn’t love relaxing in the water and getting a great tan? Add a pool or a pond that will allow yourself, and guests, to0 cool off. If you do not have that big of a space to add a pond or pool, a small water feature will give off peaceful sounds to relax by.
Fire
Whether you choose to have a large fire place installed, or a small fire pit that can be moved around your outdoor living space, you and your guests will enjoy relaxing by the fire having your favorite drink.
Lounging
When most of us go on vacation, we want to sit and lounge, and forget about our work. Make this possible in your own backyard by adding different areas on your patio to suntan, and sit and relax. A big sectional is great for large get togethers, and a hammock for an afternoon nap will always be a place people want to retreat to0. To really turn your outdoor space into a vacation spot, add rugs, big comfy cushions, and cozy throws.
Dinner and Drinks
No staycation would be complete without having delicious food and drinks. There is something magical about outdoor dining while the sun sets, and you can get this same feeling at home by adding some special touches to your space. A nice BBQ is key, and if you are lucky enough to have the room, adding a bar top is a perfect place for friends and family to sit and chat while dinner is being cooked.
